Title page + Joky Introduction Page + 42 pages. Size approx 27 x 19.3cm Condition very good for this rare Mummy printed, faux-antiquarian /papyrus work, undated, but was produced in 1883 by German Carl Maria Seyppel. to resemble an ancient Egyptian manuscript, the book with papyrus-like pages and sack binding with wax medallion on the front cover. Profusely illustrated throughout/every page, it tells a made up, Satirical story of King Rhampsinnit III of Egypt of the twentieth dynasty. papyrus-like pages, Condition Front cover rough material on paper design is purposely made to look faded over faded paper, some minor edge tearing/loss. Contents is all is purposely made to look faded, with some purposely staining and ancient, paper is brittle, with rough edges and only the cover is partly detached from the binding, All other pages are very tight and complete. Just missing the ties to hold the covers closed. All of the distressed edged paper and cover are original to make this book look ancient. In fact, Seyppel invented the 1882 patent for the method of making the paper for his works appear decayed and reveals a great deal about his work. It was a rather complicated process that involved first saturating the paper with dye, sponging it off, and drying it to make the paper look moldy and decayed, then pouring alcohol along the edges of the bound papers and lighting them on fire to create uneven edges. Written and illustrated by Carl Maria Seyppel. (1847 ? 1913) who was a German genre and portrait painter, cartoonist and writer during the mid and late 19 th century. The Introduction page of this book reads, "I am the poet wite washer etc. Notably it was very unsuccessful as the pages, were so brittle and became detached if used like a regular book. Written in rhymed text and intended to be a humorous parody. To sum up a rare tome in mostly remarkably good condition, This copy to seal to front cover is 90% complete & apart from the sack front cover having the paper backing being detached, the sack cover is still holding it together, The title page and all other pages including rear cover are tight, Very rare. Just seems to be missing the ties to hold the covers closed, and minor edge loss. 1st edition in English. N° de ref. del artículo 003682
