Size of binding: 5 1/4 in. x 8 1/8 in. x 1 in. (thick), printed title-page with a black-letter title, printer's devices, other head-pieces, initial letters present in text. [i]-xxxvi, pp. [1]-319, including Notes. Text is not printed in black-letter, but preserves the early spellings. Quarter-bound in dark green morocco leather spine, sides, and corner-pieces, with five raised bands on the spine, with characteristic gilt-lettering, floral tools, and designs, and dark green cloth over boards, marbled endpapers, top-edge gilt. This book was bound by the The Rowfant Bindery, but without their stamp. Light rubbing to raised bands on spine, wear to the leather cover corners & edges, age-related tanning to the title-page, book fore-edge, a few pages near the end are unopened. A copy that belonged to Cleveland, Ohio based bibliographer and book-collector, Wallace Hugh Cathcart (1865-1942), of the Western Reserve Historical Society, and a member of The Rowfant Club; this was Cathcart's personal working copy, and he has pencilled in his library number, and date of acquisition (3-2-[19]17), he has also added some pencilled notations in the margins, underlinings, etc. and the notation regarding this book being bound by The Rowfant Bindery. Provenance: personal collection of our founder, Peter Keisogloff (1900-95), who knew W. H. Cathcart, and later owned a few of his bibliographical reference books. "[-]These ballads, all of the highest interest and curiosity, hitherto unknown and presumed to be unique, are reprinted without the slightest alteration from the celebrated Collection formerly in the library of Mr. George Daniel, of Canonbury Square, at the sale of whose library it was purchased by the publisher for Henry Huth, Esq., to whom his best thanks are due for his kindness and liberality in permitting the present publication.
