George Tweney states that this "Tacoma" edition is considered "the best edition," as it adds to the 1863 edition all of Winthrop's western letters and journals. Spine is scuffed, smudged. The cloth boards are bubbling in places and the corners are bumped. Top edge of text block is gilt, which is scuffed, dulled. Text is toned. Illustrated with color plates. An adventure novel of early Washington (the state). Originally published in 1863. This work is part memoir, part adventure novel and shows the early Northwest with vibrant imagery.
