'British Sports and Sportsmen Past and Present Part II': Illustrated with one-hundred and fifty-one unnumbered plates, some issued with tissue guards. v, pp. 169-325 (continuous pagination from Part I). These entries date from 1886 to 1908. An extensive work with detailed studies into prominent sportsmen, typically a one or two-page biography enhanced by an engraved photograph, some taken by T. Cranfield, and J. Mayall, or an artist drawn illustration. Of special golfing interests are the biographies of Old Tom Morris, Lieut. F. G. Tait, and Tommy (Young Tom) Morris, accompanied by portraits of the men. Part I one of 'British Sports and Sportsmen Past and Present" has no golf content, only in Part II, this volume. The 'British Sports and Sportsmen' series was an extensive collection with many volumes on a wide variety of sporting subjects including tennis, cricket, various other ball games, hockey, racing, shooting, hunting, etc. Original black morocco leather over heavy beveled boards with gilt lettering and illustration, gilt decorated titles and decorations on the spine, raised bands, all edges gilt blue marbled endpapers, profuse gilt decoration to inner margins. Hinge extremities and corners exhibit wear. Contents clean. No former owner name or bookplate. Covers protected in mylar.This large, heavy book may require additional shipping costs.
