All bound in full leather by Wood and Sloane L pool , with their stamp to the base of the front paste down of Vol I. The Maps volume is essentially a loose leather cover with the publication History of the Royal Marine Divisions and seven maps inserted into the two pockets at the front and rear. A comprehensive history of the Royal Marines up to the end of The First World War together with and an additional History of the Royal Marines Divisions with images (photographs and sketches) of the RM locations (Portsmouth, London Deal), with seven numbered maps, each without a title relating to the Blumberg volume. Volumes I & II being Field's 'A History of the Royal Marines and their Predecessors'. The third volume being Blumberg's - 'A Record of the Royal Marines during the War 1914-1919'. The fourth volume titled Maps to the spine and British Sea Soldiers to the front board houses the 7 maps and the fourth volume entitled History of the Royal Marine Divisions . Vol IV: or Maps volume with the 7 maps in 2 pockets and Royal Marine Divisions which in the Foreword states "These histories have been compiled by various officers and have been appearing in the Globe and Laurel since March 1930. Since the articles were published in groups of four or eight pages, and a page might well end in the middle of the sentence, the articles are published in the order in which they were received. The result is to give the book an inconsequent appearance, since Divisions are not in order of priority. Corners good condition bumped and worn. Boards good condition full leather, gilt RM crest to the first three text volume front boards, gilt title to the maps volume, silverfish damage to the covers of Vol IV. Page edges good condition all edges gilt, apart from Vol IV/Maps volume. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition sound, Vol IV is a cover only (no hinges). Paste downs good condition marbled, with gilt dentelles to Vols I, II and III. End papers good condition marbled. Title good condition tanned and foxed.
