A very presentable copy of an important and scarce book. As its title implies, this book is a record of government delay and muddle in Air Defence. It is also a digest of broken promises.Based on Parliamentary Debates ranging over the last six years (the Hitler-Baldwin-Chamberlain period), the statements and opinions quoted are sifted and arranged in chapters under such headings as " Aircraft," " Personnel," " Production," "Aerodromes," " Ground Defence," "The Home Front "(A.R.P.) and " Propaganda." Every remark quoted from the speeches of the hundred M.P.' (30 Privy Councillors, 20 pilots, and 50 who served in the Great War) is fully documented. The outlook is National and non-Party. The Treasury Bench condemns itself. Ten thousand columns of the Official Report of Parliamentary Debates on Air Defence have been extracted, and the author has summed up the collected evidence in a terrible indictment of blindness, weakness, folly, inefficiency and procrastination, out of the mouths of the responsible Ministers themselves, and exposed by the criticism of clear sighted members of all political parties.
