FIRST EDITION (1872), 4to, 270 x 230 mm, 10½ x 9 inches, dark blue cloth illustrated gilt and black, gilt title to upper cover, black on spine, 24 text pages. 24 colour plates printed by Kronheim for 4 items: The ABC OF SHIPS AND BOATS: 23 small coloured illustrations on 4 plates plus a splendid double page coloured plate for 'N' with 2 small illustrations for 'M' and 'O' inset; THE TRIAL OF THE SPARROW WHO KILLED COCK ROBIN: 4 and 1 double, all very attractive; THE OLD WOMAN WHO LIVED IN A SHOE: frontispiece and 5 lovely plates of children; and THE THREE LITTLE DOGGIES: 9 illustrations on 4 plates and 1 double, 3 mischievous pug puppies rescue their little owner when a gypsy tries to steal her. Tail of spine and lower corners slightly worn, corners very slightly bumped, small chip to corner of front endpaper, tiny corner torn off margin of 2 plates, small closed tear to margin of 1 text page neatly repaired, occasional very slight foxing. Generally very clean and bright. A very good copy. None of the 4 titles in Osborne Catalogue, Gumuchian or Oppenheimer Catalogue, 1 copy of our book listed in Copac.
