CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: Since its publication in 1902, this work has been highly regarded and often quoted work on the American fur trade. The definitive work in the best edition. Another of the great publications by Harper and Brothers on the history and exploration of the west. Fully traces the activities of the Mountain Men and the St. Louis merchants. For me, reading Chittenden started a decades long love and fascination with the fur trade and those that participated in it. It got me started reading the history, later collecting and selling fur trade books. Chittenden tells the history in a vivid, lively manner that, as a young lad growing up in Michigan, gripped me and led me down many trails. This set is very attractive (despite the little glue residue issues), fully collated and complete as published. The extra vol. II; allows full access to the information while keeping intact the other volume's uncut pages. NOTE: Additional postage will be require for international and priority orders.
