FIRST EDITION 1864, HAND COLOURED COPY, 4to, 250 x 185 mm, 9¾ x 7½ inches, red cloth with blind stamped decoration, gilt illustration and lettering to upper cover, all edges gilt, 96 pages. Delightful hand coloured frontispiece (little girls teaching 3 dolls to dance), hand coloured title page vignette and 21 nicely hand coloured plates by Edward Wehnert. 8 stories (The Dolls' Ball, The Two Cats and Willie and his Little Horse etc.). Head and tail of spine expertly repaired, corners slightly rubbed, 1 slightly bumped, 2 small slight stains to upper cover, endpapers replaced at some time. Very light crease to top corner of frontispiece, 10 mm (½") closed tear to 2 margins, small chip to lower inner corner of 1 text page, 2 small light brown stains to 1 text page, occasional light fingermarks and occasional light spotting to margins.
