This is the Industrial Business Letterhead for Pierce, Butler & Pierce Manufacturing Company , Makers of Steam and Water Boilers & Radiators; Sanitary Woodwork , Steam and Sanitary Supplies (Bathtubs, Sinks, Toilets). The document displays a typewritten correspondence, dated September 20, 1910, from C. F. Bennet, Asst. Gen'l. Mgr. - Mr. Bennett was writing to the W. King Smith company of Syracuse, N. Y. , concerning Gramm Motor Trucks. Signed with a hand-stamp. The letterhead has been folded three times (Likely for insertion into a postal envelope), creating creases, which are quite visible. The paper measures 8 3/4" x 7 1/4". The Gramm Motor Truck Company of Lima, Ohio manufactured, one, two, three, and five ton trucks. ************************************************* Pierce, Butler & Pierce Manufacturing Company was located in Syracuse New York, occupying several sites. The handsome engraved letterhead, quite ornate, depicts the company factory works, which occupied an extensive amount of acreage. One can see Railroad and Trolley Lines running along the property (on the left). Identified in the engraving are the officers of the company: William K. Pierce, President and General Manager; Thomas Wheatley, Vice President and Treasurer; P. M. Beecher, Secretary; F. W. Fix, Jr., Assistant Treasurer, and C. F. Bennett, Assistant General Manager. ************************************************* At the time of the letter, the company, established in 1832, was the oldest business extant in Syracuse, and operated with the largest "gross tonnage" over any other local business. Pierce, Butler & Pierce went into Federal receivership in 1914. ************************************************* CONDITION - GOOD - The paper has been folded at least three times, creating creases, which are readily seen. There is edge wear (crimping , small nicks, etc.); there is also a touch of foxing. There is a small hole that has obliterated the weight of the trucks in question.
