An oblong 4 1/4 by 7 inch leather bound autograph book of Mattie Gabbert of Columbus, Mississippi, as indicated on the front fly. 75 pp [including front fly] with inscriptions and poems on 59 pp, 16 pp blank, 2 pp loose and laid-in. Various clip art color lithographs pasted to some pages., leather tooled boards with gilt Aesthetic Victorian motif, boards bowed, edgeworn, considerably at spine ends, foxing and soiling to interior. The following family names appear: Bennett, Cole, Dodds, Halbert, Holladay, Lacy, Masten, Metcalfe, Morton, Nutting, Riley, and Teasdale. Most inscriptions state Columbus, MS but the following towns also listed: Barksdale, Bigby Valley, Forest Home, Vernon, Grandfordville, Rose College, and Starkville. Annotations to many pages in pencil include the addition of the married name below previous inscription name [most not legible] and the word 'dead' below many. Newshelf 19.
