She took the nom de plume "Clemence Dane" from the church, St Clement Danes on the Strand, London, near to where she taught at a girls' school, after having studied art in both London and Germany. She later collaborated with Helen de Guerry Simpson, with whom she wrote three detective novels featuring the character Sir John Saumarez, the first of which was filmed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1930 as the motion picture, "Murder!". Although 16 novels and 30 plays are attributed to her, as well as a history of Covent Garden, this is probably her scarcest title ; VG. N° de ref. del artículo 5136
