Photographie,Grand Duchess Olga Constantinovna of Russia (Russian: ?????? ??????????????? ?????????; IPA: [?ol??? k?nst?n?t?in?vn? r??man?v?]), later Queen Olga of the Hellenes (Greek: ????????? ???? ??? ???????) (3 September [O.S. 22 August] 1851 ? 18 June 1926), was the wife of King George I of Greece and, briefly in 1920, regent of Greece. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, is her grandson. A member of the Romanov dynasty, she was the daughter of Grand Duke Constantine Nikolaievich and his wife, Princess Alexandra of Saxe-Altenburg. She spent her childhood in Saint Petersburg, Poland and the Crimea, and married King George I of Greece in 1867 at the age of sixteen. At first, she felt ill at ease in the Kingdom of Greece, but she quickly became involved in social and charitable work. She founded hospitals and help centers, but her attempt to promote a new, more accessible, Greek translation of the Gospels sparked riots by religious conservatives. On the assassination of her husband in 1913, Olga returned to Russia. When the First World War broke out, she set up a military hospital in Pavlovsk Palace, which belonged to her brother. She was trapped in the palace after the Russian Revolution of 1917, until the Danish embassy intervened, allowing her to escape to Switzerland. Olga could not return to Greece as her son, King Constantine I, had been deposed. In October 1920, she returned to Athens on the fatal illness of her grandson, King Alexander. After his death, she was appointed regent until the restoration of Constantine I the following month. After the defeat of the Greeks in the Greco-Turkish War of 1919?22 the Greek royal family were again exiled and Olga spent the last years of her life in the United Kingdom, France and Italy. // Circa 1875 // Tirage albuminé // Format (cm): 10x15. Her title 'Queen of Greece' (or Queen of the Hellenes) is not recognized under the terms of the republican Constitution of Greece. However, international precedent is that former holders of certain posts continue to hold their former title as a courtesy title during their lifetimes. Anne-Marie was born a Princess of Denmark at the Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen. She is the youngest daughter of King Frederick IX of Denmark and his wife Ingrid of Sweden. Her godparents were her grandfathers King Christian X of Denmark and King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden, Prince Bertil of Sweden, King Haakon VII of Norway, her grandmother Queen Alexandrine of Denmark, Crown Princess Märtha of Norway, Queen Mary of the United Kingdom, Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, and Princess Dagmar of Denmark. Anne-Marie is the youngest sister of the current Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and cousin of current King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. Anne-Marie was educated at Zahle's School in Denmark from 1952 to 1963. In 1962 she attended the Chatelard School for Girls, an English boarding school outside Montreux in Switzerland. In 1963 and 1964 she attended the Institut Le Mesnil, a Swiss finishing school also in Montreux. In 1959, at the age of thirteen, Anne-Marie first met her future husband, her triple third cousin, Crown Prince Constantine of Greece, Prince of Denmark, who accompanied his parents, King Paul of Greece and Queen Frederika, on a state visit to Denmark. They met a second time in Denmark in 1961, when Constantine declared to his parents his intention to marry Anne-Marie. They met again in Athens in May 1962 at the marriage of Constantine's sister Sophia to Prince Juan Carlos of Spain and in 1963 at the centenary celebrations of the Greek monarchy. In July 1964.
