5 1/8 inches x 3 3/4 in., woodcut design of a rooster, hen, birds, leaping fox, & clothesline, printed on a thin, tissue (proof) type paper. The paper shows tan spots. Signed in pencil in the lower left: L Slutsneys (?) [19]17. Possibily produced by a graphic arts student at Gewerbeschule, Zurich. From the personal collection of Swiss-born artist and designer, Fred Rentschler, who emigrated to America in the early 1920's, and later taught at the Cleveland [Ohio] School of Art. His collection contained examples of proofs & finished pieces of bookplates, new year's greetings, book illustrations, title-page designs, initial letters, etc. mainly produced by Swiss artists & designers, ca. 1917-22.
