John Taylor (1703 Norwich - 1772 perhaps in Rome) was one of the first eye surgeons in Britain, but with a reputation as a quack. According to various claims, he blinded hundreds of patients. He operated twice on Johann Sebastian Bach and is also said to have blinded him, Bach died not long after the second operation. In 1758 he operated on Handel, whose health also deteriorated after the operation and died a few months later. He was a great promoter, giving long speeches and praising his art before each operation. He died in obscurity and completely blind, David Johann Martini de Drazowa (c.1720 in Holland - after 1760), a Dutch copper engraver, worked for many years in Hamburg, where he produced several panoramic views of the city and engravings for the German edition of Molière. His ancestor was Samuel Martin of Dra ov (1593 Hořovice - 1639 Pirna), a bachelor and master of the liberal arts, publisher and Lutheran religious writer, who received the surname "of Dra ov" in 1619 from Emperor Frederick the Great. He was banished from Prague in 1622, then travelled in Germany, Holland, England and France, and from 1632 lived in Pirna, Saxony. N° de ref. del artículo ID 76
