3 1/4 inches x 5 in., woodcut design for a bookplate for Jakob Heller, printed on a thin type brown paper, signed in pencil in the lower right margin: Fritz Meier, and the initial FM in the block. From the personal collection of Swiss-born artist and designer, Fred Rentschler, who emigrated to America in the early 1920's, and later taught at the Cleveland [Ohio] School of Art. His collection contained examples of proofs & finished pieces of bookplates, new year's greetings, book illustrations, title-page designs, initial letters, etc. mainly produced by Swiss artists & designers, ca. 1917-22, including a few of his Swiss bookplate designs.
