Ruth Plumly Thompson (27 July 1891 - 6 April 1976) was an American writer of children's stories, best known for writing many novels placed in Oz, the fictional land of L. Frank Baum's classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its sequels. An avid reader of Baum's books and a lifelong children's writer, Thompson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While in high school she sold her first fairy tale to St. Nicholas Magazine to which she continued contributing, along with The Smart Set. wizard In 1914 she took a job with the Philadelphia Public Ledger, writing a weekly children's column for the newspaper. Thompson's contributions to the Oz series are lively and imaginative, featuring a wide range of colorful and unusual characters. Beige cloth with full-cover pict. paste-down. One page with larger stain to right margin, one page with tape residue. The rest of the pages are very nice. Tidy previous owner name on "This book Belongs to" page; no other writing. No foxing. Apart from the two pages mentioned, really very nice and fresh. Not Signed.

DJ has light surface rubbing and some chipping along top spine edge. Were it not for the mold damage (which does not effect the text) this would be a fine copy.

Nice tight binding, clean crisp text. All illustrations are black and white which leads us to believe that this edition was published after 1935 when the publisher started printing OZ books without color illustrations.

This is the last Oz series book issued with color plates, and the only one with plain white end papers This is a very rare issue. 1935 Riley ,& Lee. No other publication data on copyright page so I'm assuming it's a first edition. It does have some condition issues. The front cover is dark with age or ? And the back cover has some rippling like it possibly got wet. The inside has no defects other than tanning of the pages, particularly on the top and bottom . Please ask any questions prior to purchase and I will add more photos soon.
