Condición: Bueno. Compiled more than two thousand years ago by a mysterious warrior-philosopher, The Art of War is still perhaps the most prestigious and influential book of strategy in the world today, as eagerly studied in Asia by modern politicians and executives as it as been by military leaders since ancient times. As a study of the anatomy of organizations in conflict, The Art of War applies to competition and conflict in general, on every level from the interpersonal to the international. Its aim is invincibility, victory without battle, and unassailable strength through understanding of the physics, politics, and psychology of conflict. Translated from a standard collection of commentaries on Sun Tzu's text by eleven interpreters, this pocket classic has been edited by Thomas Cleary to bring out the meaning of the principles of strategy.EAN: 9780877735373 Tipo: Libros Categoría: Literatura y ficción| Historias cortas y antologías Título: Four Chinese Classics: "art of War", "i Ching", "tao Te Ching", "way of Chuang Tzu"Autor: Shambhala| Confucius| Thomas Merton| Thomas F Cleary PH.D. Soft Cover. Condición: As New. First Edition. First Printing. Publisher's printed card wraps. Illustrated with B&W drawings. Working from existing translations, Thomas Merton composed a series of his own versions of the classic sayings of Chuang Tzu, the most spiritual of Chinese philosophers. Chuang Tzu, who wrote in the fourth and third centuries BCE., is the chief authentic historical spokesperson for Taoism and its founder Lao Tzu. Indeed, it was because of Chuang Tzu and the other Taoist sages that Indian Buddhism was transformed, in China, into the unique vehicle we now call by its Japanese name - Zen. The Chinese sage abounds in wit and paradox and shattering insights into the true ground of being. Thomas Merton, no stranger to Asian thought, brings a vivid, modern idiom to the timeless wisdom of Tao. Classic writings from the great Zen master in exquisite versions by Thomas Merton, in a new edition with a preface by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The volume is in perfect, pristine condition, unmarked, unread, tight, square, and clean. AS NEW. B&W drawings. 12mo 7" - 7½" tall. 159 pp.

Lovely, lovely first printing copy of a seldom seen Merton hardcover title. Thomas Merton (1915 - 1968) was an American Trappist monk, writer, theologian, mystic, poet, social activist and scholar of comparative religion. In 1949, he was ordained to the Catholic priesthood and given the name "Father Louis". He was a member of the Abbey of Our Lady of Gethsemani, near Bardstown, Kentucky, living there from 1941 to his death. Merton wrote more than 50 books in a period of 27 years, mostly on spirituality, social justice and a quiet pacifism, as well as scores of essays and reviews. Merton became a keen proponent of interfaith understanding, exploring Eastern religions through his study of mystic practice. In addition, he wrote books on Zen Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism, and how Christianity related to them. (from Wikipedia) Chuang Tzu was an influential Chinese philosopher who lived around the 4th century BCE during the Warring States period, a period of great development in Chinese philosophy, the Hundred Schools of Thought. He is credited with writingâ "in part or in wholeâ "a work known by his name, the Zhuangzi, which is one of the foundational texts of Taoism.
