Condición: Good. 1946. No Edition Remarks. 594 pages. No dust jacket. This is an ex-Library book. Blue cloth covered boards with gilt lettering. Ex-Library copy, with expected inserts and inscriptions. Pages remain clear with minimal tanning and foxing, mild to end-papers and text-block edges. Some occasional mild cracking to gutters throughout however binding remains reasonably firm. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Mild crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Gilt lettering is darkened.

Frontispiece, Preface, Bibliographical Data, Numerous Figures---from Photographs and Line Drawings, many from the notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci; xiv, 597 pages. The original blue buckram is in very good shape: tight and square, with just a touch of rubbing to the spine where the gilt lettering is still bright. The interior is bright and clean, despite a touch of pale toning throughout. [Please see multiple images of the actual book.] Contributors: Agnes Arber, Archibald, Harcourt Brown, Cassirer, Cole, Coomaraswamy, Delevsky, Dibner, Diller, Gandz, Green, Leake, Lenzen, McColley, Merton, Montagu, Neugebauer, Santillana, May Sarton, Saunders & O'Malley, Schrecker, Shryock, Singer, Thorndike, Vallicrosa, Ware, and Zirkle. Montagu explains in his preface that more would have participated had it not been for the war. Subjects range from Babylonian Astronomy and Chinese Grammar to Natural Selection and Discovery of Sex-linked Characteristics, Vesalius, Helmholtz, Positivism, Transfinite Numbers and more.
