Stiff pictorial wrappers. Condición: Good condition. 1st edition. 'Dutton Pictureback' - 37. Design: Gillian Greenwood. De Stijl was the name given to the work of the architects, designers and artists associated with the magazine of the same title edited by Theo van Doesburg and founded in Holland in 1917. De Stijl was international in its outlook: in contact with the Bauhaus and the Russian Constructivists, it helped create the ideology and formal language of modernism. This survey illuminates the works of Mondrian and the architecture and designs of Oud, Wils, Huszar and Rietveld, all of whom aimed to create an objective art concerned with universal values, expressed in primary geometric forms and pure colors. Contents: 1). The international background. 2). The Dutsch background. 3). De Stijl: development and ideals. 4). De Stijl: achievements. 5). Conclusion. With bibliography and index. 120 illustrations, some in color. 168 pag. Size: 18,5cmx12,5cm.

Proof copy of Overy?s book, enclosed in the wrappers used for the paperback edition of that date. It incorporates a number of pencil corrections in Brian Housden?s hand, mostly to the captions of the plates, all of which appear to have been reflected in Overy?s final published volume. Small 8vo. 168pp, many photo ills. A set of the page proofs, bound up in contemporary blue paper wrappers, now loosely enclosed in the publisher?s pictorial wrappers. Brian Housden?s copy.
