Mass Market Paperback. Anais Nin (1903 1977) was a French-born American diarist, essayist, novelist, and writer of short stories and erotica. Born to Cuban parents in France, Nin was the daughter of the composer Joaquín Nin and the classically trained singer Rosa Culmell. Nin spent her early years in Spain and Cuba, about sixteen years in Paris (19241940), and the remaining half of her life in the United States, where she became an established author. She was a finalist for the Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 1976. A Spy in House of Love is an exquisitely crafted, sometimes-puzzling little novel well worth reading for its beautiful language and occasionally penetrating insights. The tale of Sabina, an enigmatic and ultimately insecure woman who is wedded to the indulgent and adoring Alan while nevertheless still being driven compulsively to stray, is told in a style often distilled down to a prose poetry whose savor lingers in the mind like a fragrance cloying half-sensed yet evocative in the wondering nose. Really, it is the journey--the subtle psychological investigations and the syrupy flow of Nin's verbal art--rather than any final conclusion or resolution that makes the read worthwhile.

Paperback. Condición: Good. 123 pages. Cover worn Although Anais Nin found in her diaries a profound mode of self-creation and confession, she could not r eveal this intimate record of her own experiences during her life time. Instead, she turned to fiction, where her stories and novel s became artistic distillations of her secret diaries. A Spy in t he House of Love, whose heroine Sabina is deeply divided between her drive for artistic and sexual expression, on the one hand, an d social restrictions and self-created inhibitions, on the other, echoed Nin's personal struggle with sex, love, and emotional fra gmentation. Written when Nin's own life was taut with conflicting loyalties, her protagonist Sabina repeatedly asks herself, can o ne indulge in one's sensual restlessness, the fantasies, the rele ntless need for adventure without devastating consequences?.
