James Morris, 1926-2020, the only journalist to accompany Britain's 1953 Mount Everest expedition, was known particularly for his Pax Britannica trilogy (1968?1978, a history of the British Empire), and for his portraits of cities, including Oxford, Venice, Trieste, Hong Kong and New York. A married father of five, in 1972 he traveled to Morocco for "sex reassignment surgery," after which he insisted on being identified as a woman named "Jan." 168 pp. including index. Reduced from $17.
