Boards are firmly attached to binding. Top fore edge toned. Green leaf and flower pattern on front and rear endpapers. Previous owner signature on front free endpaper. 1 inch closed tear on front free endpaper from top edge near gutter. Previous owner signature also on page opposite title page. Pages have been well maintained and are clean. Text is neat and legible. Pages 169 through 192 are partially loose from binding but remain attached. She married into the famous Vanderbilt family and dedicated her life to improving the condition of New York's African American community, though, certainly, in a very do-gooder "White Savior" kind of way. Her writings on the lives of Dutch citizens in New York was very popular and she is often overlooked as a pioneer of women's historians in the twentieth century (Brooklyn Historical Society, 2018).
