Pen and pencil inscriptions to front endpaper and slight dog-eared pages throughout. Moderate foxing and tanning to text block edges. Boards have mild rubbing and minor bumping to corners. Soft crushing to spine ends as well. Clipped jacket with visible tearing to corners, edges and spine ends. Tape to head end of spine and visible rubbing. Area of loss to rear and major foxing to interior.

First Oxford World's Classics edition (No. 414). xx, 339pp. After an introduction by Lord David Cecil, this book contains the following short stories by Sir Walter Scott: Wandering Willie's Tale, from Redgauntlet; Chronicles of the Canongate, introducing The Highland Widow; Mr Croftangry's Introduction to The Two Drovers; My Aunt Margaret's Mirror; The Tapestried Chamber; Death of the Laird's Jock. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and a blind-stamped emblem on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with light bumping to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean with no inscription. The clipped dustwrapper, bearing the atlas design, has shelf wear with some soiling and bumping and nicks to the corner tips. Small pieces are missing from the bottom of the spine and up to about 1/4" is missing from the top of the spine. There are a few small tears on the edges and a larger tear of up to about 1/2" with some surrounding creasing on the top front edge. Most of the tears have been repaired on the reverse with document repair tape.
