Hardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. Dr. Seuss Ilustrador. Reissued Commemorative Edition. Fine condition brown boards with a dark brown cloth spine and gold spine lettering contained in a fine condition non price-clipped color illustrated dust jacket. Includes Author Dedication; Foreword by Dr. Seuss, Coventry, 1939. Profusely illustrated with color drawings by Dr. Seuss. "This is a commemorative edition of the first printing of this book, originally published in 1939. First printing of the reissued edition, September 1987" - from the copyright page. Unpaginated. "Originally published in 1939, Dr. Seuss's first book for adults is a collector's item.you can save. with this pretty-close-to-the-real-thing edition. Now reissued by miltitudinous demand, this book sets the record straight about what really happened in eleventh-century Coventry: there was not one Lady Godiva but seven sisters, all equally bare, and not one Peeping Tom but seven. With unabashed good humor, Seuss romps through history and engages in a little horseplay along the way as he uncovers the origins of seven celebrated proverbs. Wonderfully wacky and satisfyingly scandalous, this is the perfect fillip for all those who thought they had outgrown Dr. Seuss." - from the inner front jacket flap.

The Seven Lady Godivas: The True Facts Concerning History's Barest Family is a picture book of the tale of Lady Godiva, written and illustrated by Dr. Seuss. First edition, first printing, this copy accompanied by the uncommon publisher's "Godiva Book Mark". This is the fourth book written by the author and is an early attempt to write prose for adults. It was a "commercial flop, not because it is not funny, but because few people during the Depression had money to spend on humour" (MacDonald, p. 7). Disappointed, Seuss declared that "adults are obsolete children, and the hell with them", and devoted himself to children's literature. Younger & Hirsch 71. Ruth K. MacDonald, Dr. Seuss, 1988. Quarto. Original pale pink cloth, spine and front board lettered and decorated in red, pictorial endpapers. With dust jacket and publisher's die cut matching bookmark. Illustrations throughout in red and black by the author. Inner hinges faintly toned, contents clean; jacket spine panel toned, a couple of closed tears to edges, extremities chipped, faint spotting, unclipped: a fine copy in very good jacket.

First edition, first printing, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper verso, "For Noel, Who can sue but he damn well can't collect - Dr. Seuss". This title is one of the author's few books written for adults, and is, unusually for Seuss, written in prose. Younger & Hirsch 71. Quarto. Original pale pink cloth, spine and front board lettered and blocked in red, pictorial endpapers. Illustrations throughout by the author. Slight lean to spine, extremities toned, offsetting to endpapers, a couple of spots to preliminary leaves, a very good copy indeed, in the unclipped jacket, spine and flap folds toned, extremities nicked, short closed tear to foot of front flap fold, a very good example.
