    Hardcover. Condición: Very good condition. Unusual illustrated Indian edition of the Rubaiyat, consisting of a portfolio containing one 12pp booklet, 16 unbound cards printed in red and green on heavy stock, and a set of 15 unbound cards of b&w full page illustrations. This edition not dated, but a post WWII date is implied in the opening paragraph of the Introduction, in which Sett refers to "two global wars." The booklet consists of the 75 quatrains, with an introduction written by the artist, Mera Ben Kavas Sett. The 16 unbound cards which follow have handwritten text printed in green, surrounded by the remarkable illustrations and ornamentation in red, by Sett. The set of 15 cards each have one of Sett's drawings in black and white, and the text of the appropriate quatrain printed in black on the verso. Sett, the Indian artist, was said to be influenced by Aubrey Beardsley, but he states in the Introduction: "Critics and artists ask me if I am a follower of Aubrey Beardsley. For there is a faint echo of his in my work (his because he died before me). And yet till quite lately I knew not of Beardsley. I formed my style on the study of Eastern drawings, especially Indian. (p3). In the original dark green and gilt cloth fold over portfolio, 9 x 11 1/2". Gilt title at front cover of portfolio in Art Deco typeface. The portfolio slightly sunned at spine.
