Goodread notes = "The Big Sky, Lona Hanson establishes many of the themes of Thomas Savage s later masterworks. In ranchwoman Lona Hanson, Savage creates an extraordinary character: passionate, driven, domineering, and ultimately tragic. As O. Alan Weltzien writes in his introduction to this new edition, Savage s resistance to, even revulsion from, hack Western plots in film or print stamped his own independence as he set about writing the Rocky Mountain West he knew first hand, from the inside." >>Pealing to laminated covers; cover creaisng; 1/4" paper tear to bottom edge of front cover; wear to bottom of spine; staining to interior backcover. First Edition. Hardcover in slipcase. First Edition. New in publisher's shrinkwrap. Publisher's description: Written and directed by Academy Award winner and Palme d'Or recipient Jane Campion, The Power of the Dog is a haunting western set in 1920s Montana, adapted from Thomas Savage's 1967 novel of the same name. With a star-studded cast featuring Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons, Kirsten Dunst and Kodi Smit- McPhee, the story focuses on a charismatic rancher, Phil Burbank (Cumberbatch), who inspires fear and awe in those around him. When his brother brings home a new wife and her son, Phil torments them until he finds himself exposed to the possibility of love. The film earned Campion the Silver Lion award for Best Director at the Venice Film Festival. This book offers an in-depth look at the making of the movie, including film stills, set photography and quotes from the cast and filmmakers. Every aspect of production and post-production is explored, from acquiring the book rights to writing the screenplay, from casting to finessing the score. The layers are peeled back to reveal how Campion and her team were able to create such a complete and believable world. Founded in Paris in 1994 by Prosper and Martine Assouline, Assouline is the first luxury brand on culture. It began with the desire to create a new, contemporary style of book, using the couple's experienced eye for visually rich stories and compelling narratives. Guided by their passion for knowledge, culture and travel, the Assoulines have since expanded their vision to 1,700 titles in three main collections, along with special editions and unique library accessories-a grand oeuvre of inspiring creations. Throughout the last quarter of a century, the brand has established a network of international boutiques in prominent locations across the globe. Assouline has also inaugurated a curated library service, working closely with clients to visualize, design, and develop bespoke, one-of-a-kind libraries. 304 pages. 280 illustrations. 31.3 x 26.9 x 5.8 cm. Hardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. 1st Edition. "The Power of the Dog" by Thomas Savage. Little Brown, 1967 first American edition first printing, original boards, slight bumping to spine ends, dust-jacket, light creasing joints and spine tips, remains of prices label to lower panel, but overall a sharp, near-fine example, and most definitely the most superior copy on the market. ? A superb example of Savage's most famous work. Though published to critical acclaim the novel sold poorly and was largely forgotten until a recent revival that culminated in Jane Campion's superb 2021 oscar winning film adaptation. Many copies allegedly went to libraries and first editions in good condition are consequently scarce.
