Hardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. BOOK CLUB EDITION. CONDITION: FINE. DJ HAS SOME MINOR WEAR. Synopsis: A chance encounter with danger at the Pool of St Branok caused lovely Angelet to look upon her dashing cousin Benedict with more than cousinly affection. And in the lawless goldfields of Australia, forced into a loveless marriage, Angelet found Benedict--and knew her heart would always be his. HC: Putnam's. From Publishers Weekly: Carr, aka Victoria Holt, employs her storytelling prowess in an entertaining historical romance that moves between Victorian England and Australia. The tale is long and complicated, but attention is held as Angelet, daughter of Annora and Rolf of Midsummer's Eve, begins to enter adulthood. One incident marks her indelibly. At the superstition-laden pool of St. Branok in Cornwall, she is saved from a rapist by Ben, a young family connection on a visit from Australia. When she and Ben dispose of the attacker's body in the pool, their bond is strengthened. Ben returns to Australia in pursuit of gold; Angelet debuts in London and marries a charming scapegrace, a gambler who will eventually take her to Australia in pursuit of a fortune. There the stage is set for Angelet, by now a widow, and Ben, a putative widower. Doubleday Book Club selection; Literary Guild alternate. Copyright 1987 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. The first fourteen vols (of nineteen) of Philippa Carr's (Eleanor Alice Burford Hibbert) 'Daughters of England' series, published between 1972-93. Only the first book 'The Miracle at St Bruno's' is a reprint of 1992 (first published 1972), all the others are first editions, first impressions. All have some slight edge wear to tops and bottoms of jackets and spines, some corners are slightly bruised, some spines very slightly faded, some have a slight lean, none are price clipped, no inscriptions, all internally clean and tight, overall a vg+ set. The series covers the story of Britain from the sixteenth through to the nineteenth century, seen through the eyes of women. Eleanor Alice Hibbert (nee Burford, 1906-93), was an English author who combined imagination with facts to bring history alive through novels of fiction and romance. She was a prolific writer who published several books a year in different literary genres, each genre under a different pen name. Jean Plaidy for fictionalized history of European royalty, Victoria Holt for gothic romances and Philippa Carr for a multi generational family saga. A literary split personality, she also wrote light romances, crime novels, murder mysteries and thrillers under the various pseudonyms Eleanor Burford, Elbur Ford, Kathleen Kellow, Anna Percival, and Ellalice Tate. In 1989, the Romance Writers of America gave her the Golden Treasure award in recognition of her significant contributions to the romance genre. By the time of her death, she had written more than 200 books that worldwide sold more than 100 million copies in 20 languages. She continues to be a widely borrowed author among British libraries. Her popular works of historical fiction are appreciated by readers and critics alike for their accuracy, quality of writing, and attention to detail. A large heavy set. Extra postage will be required. Quite a scarce run.
