The magnificent-voiced football player turned actor starred in numerous films over several decades ("Gaslight," "Duel in the Sun," "Portrait of Jennie" and "September Affair" among them), but never eclipsed his roles as Holly Martins in "The Third Man" (1949) and as Jedediah Leland in Orson Welles' 1941 classic "Citizen Kane." PS, 8" X 10", n.p., n.d. [ca. 1980]. Fine. Modern glossy print of a classy head-and-shoulders portrait of a younger Cotten in Confederate cavalry uniform, signed boldly by him in black fineline in a light are just left of center. A superb later life example.

The magnificent-voiced football player turned actor starred in numerous films over several decades ("Gaslight," "Duel in the Sun," "Portrait of Jennie" and "September Affair" among them), but never eclipsed his roles as Holly Martins in "The Third Man" (1949) and as Jedediah Leland in Orson Welles' 1941 classic "Citizen Kane." Color PS, heavy stock 14" X 36", n.p., n.d. Very good. Mild edgewear; three original horizontal folds, visible but not weakened. Original 1947 RKO Radio Pictures poster for the film "The Farmer's Daughter," starring Cotten, Loretta Young and Ethel Barrymore. Center scene shows city slicker Cotten full length in suit and tie leaning against a split rail fence wooing country gal Young, a farmstead in the background. Caption across the top reads, "The Funniest Story / About the Farmer's / Daughter. / Since the Farmer's Daughter / went to town!!" Bottom third is largely large colorful text (main cast, title, supporting cast). Across the bottom of his pants leg, in thick black marker, Cotten signs large and bold. An excellent later life signature (circa 1980) on a superb vintage item. A wonderful display piece -- most unusual to find this signed.
