Das Fehlen eines bestimmten Nervenzentrums im Gehirn macht diese Männer zu potenziellen Gewalttätern und die Polizei wird im Falle eines Mordes oder einer anderen gewalttätigen Straftat vom Computer informiert, ob eine Person aus der Datenbank mit der Tat in Verbindung stehen könnte. Für Jake ist sofort klar, dass jemand in die Datenbank eingedrungen sein muss und sich die Liste aller Namen und Decknamen kopiert hat. Doch welches Motiv treibt den Mörder an? Erst als sich herausstellt, dass der Mörder selber in der Kartei war und Kontakt zu ihr aufnimmt begreift sie, dass ihn philosophische bzw. ethische Überlegungen zu seinen Taten treiben. Mehr will ich zur Story gar nicht verraten, um nicht die Spannung zu nehmen. Auch für Leute ohne philosophisches Basiswissen ist die Fahndung nach dem Mörder mit dem Decknamen Wittgenstein ein anspruchsvolles Lesevergnügen, bei dem man noch ein wenig über Wittgenstein & Co. erfährt. Philip Kerr hat hier eine Welt nach Orwell'schem Vorbild kreiert, in der der gläserne Mensch schon fast zur Wirklichkeit geworden ist und Datenschutz und Privatsphäre nur für die gelten, die als Rad im Getriebe der Gesellschaft einwandfrei funktionieren. 1995 erhielt Philip Kerr für seinen Krimi Das Wittgenstein-Programm (im Original: Philosophical Investigation) den deutschen Krimi-Preis für den besten internationalen Kriminalroman. --Gunnar Michaelsen. - Philip Kerr ['ke?r, 'k??] (* 22. Für seinen Roman Das Wittgensteinprogramm und seinen High-Tech-Thriller Game Over erhielt er den Deutschen Krimipreis. Philip Kerr studierte Jura und Rechtsphilosophie in Birmingham und arbeitete anschließend in einer Werbeagentur. 1989 erschien sein erster Roman March Violets (dt. Feuer in Berlin), der in den 1930er Jahren in Berlin spielt, eine Mischung aus historischem Roman und Thriller, der international Anerkennung fand und in Frankreich mit dem Prix du Roman d'Aventures und Prix Mystère de la critique ausgezeichnet wurde. Aus dem Debüt entwickelte sich die Krimitrilogie Berlin Noir um den Privatdetektiv und ehemaligen Kriminaloberkommissar Bernhard Gunther. Mit den in diesen Romanen eingebauten Vorgeschichten erzählen sie das Leben Bernhard Gunthers von 1932 zu seiner Zeit bei der Berliner Kriminalpolizei vor der Machtergreifung der Nazis über seine Flucht auf den Rattenlinien nach Buenos Aires (1952) bis zu seiner Ankunft 1954 auf Kuba. 2010 erschien ein weiterer Band mit dem englischen Titel Field Grey (dt. Mission Walhalla), in dem es den Protagonisten von Kuba in das Grenzdurchgangslager Friedland verschlägt. Verschiedene der als Nebenpersonen in den Handlungen der Romane um Bernhard Gunther auftretenden Personen sind nicht fiktiv, so etwa Ernst Gennat und Bernhard Weiß als auch Adolf Eichmann, Horst Carlos Fuldner oder Joseph Mengele. Seit 2004 schreibt er als P. B. Kerr an der Fantasy-Jugendbuch-Serie, Children of the Lamp, über die zu Beginn zwölfjährigen magischen Zwillinge John und Philippa Gaunt aus New York, die durch allerlei merkwürdige Ereignisse erkennen, dass sie keineswegs normale Kinder sind, sondern Nachfahren der Dschinn, Kinder der Lampe" wie die Geister aus Tausendundeiner Nacht. 2009 kam das Buch Geheimmission Mond auf den Markt.
