This copy is bound in red cloth covered boards with gilt titling to the spine, there is some offsetting to the endpapers but the text block is in fine unmarked condition. The unclipped dust wrapper has some edge wear and a few closed tears and it has now been covered in clear, removable, protective film. Colonel Mackenzie tells his story as Senior Medical Officer in War-time captivity under the Japanese in Rangoon Jail, following his capture as prisoner-of-war at the Sittang Bridge in the Burma Campaign of 1942 He tells of his care and treatment of his fellow prisoners under the squalid conditions of prison life inflicted by the Japanese and of major surgical operations performed under improvised and virtually impossible conditions.
