Small 4to. Stiff orange pictorial wrappers. Pp. 483-560, (8pp ads). Illustrations. Good plus. Outer wrappers quite frayed and edgeworn, with large chip at lower right of rear wrapper and some archivally closed edge tears, though front pictorial wrapper still attractive; internally tight and very good. A tight, decent issue of this popular adventure monthly, this issue containing the first three chapters of Oliver Optic's "Going West; or, The Perils of a Poor Boy," the first two chapters of Elizabeth Dudley's "Nature's Scholar" and the first four chapters of Elijah Kellogg's "Brought to the Front: or, The Young Defenders," along with the usual array of poems, essays, music, etc. A charming period piece -- quite handleable copy of a periodical difficult to find in readable condition.
