Publicado por W Bird Cardiff Printers, 1840
Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. viii pp prelims, 100pp + 12pp Rules and Regulations of the Bute Docks, at Cardiff, 2 full page plans of Cardiff harbour, in later half leather brown boards with marbled endpapers, gilt titles to spine, which is a modern replacement. The contents are in very good condition, with a note from the authors on the title page and a scuff to the front end paper. The boards are in very good condition with a touch of rubbing to the edges and corners. The boards are a later addition (and the spine even more so), although the title label on the front board is somewhat of a mystery! By the mid-1800s Cardiff was a busy port but lack of proper dock facilities led the 2nd Marquis of Bute to back the construction of the (West) Bute Dock which was designed by Smyth, the author of this work. The dock opened in 1839. Written just before the Taff Vale Railway first opened for traffic, this is Smyth's argument for the Marquis of Bute's vision for the expansion of Cardiff docks. Otley 7405. UK postage for this item will be lower than the ABE default rate.
