Store Stamped. --- --- MURDER IN THE ROSE GARDEN --- When a seductive blackmailer is found murdered in the White House's Rose Garden and the suspects include several high-ranking politicians, the redoubtable Mrs. Roosevelt assists the police in their efforts. --- FALSE WITNESS --- Lynne Jacobi gets the call a few hours before dawn. Model-turned-television celebrity Sanderalee Dawson lies on the kitchen floor of her sumptuous Manhattan apartment, hanging on to life by a tenuous thread. The victim of a savage assault, she stuns everyone when she survives and identifies her attacker. So begins a case that leads law enforcement down a twisting path of secrets, lies, and false leads. Lynne, bureau chief of the district attorney's office, is fueled by ambition and her vow to bring a brutal killer to justice. But Chief Investigator Bobby Jones isn't sure they have the right man, and he hesitates to put his legal career--and his affair with Lynne--at risk. The victim herself, as the only witness to her rape, must go up against a monster who just might get away with it. . .

First Edition, First Printing. Octavo, 232pp. Black hardcover. Stated "first edition" with a full number line. Publisher's near fine dust jacket, light sunning to spine. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: "To my one and only loved one, Patty, who has lived through such hardship, being married to me these last several years. My illnesses have been overwhelming to a very gallant and brave lady. Thank you, dearest, but you'll never know how much I appreciate and love you. -Your imperfect husband, Elliott Roosevelt / Christmas, 1989." Elliott Roosevelt (1910-1990) was the son of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt. He served as a U.S. Army Air Corps officer during World War II, earning the rank of Brigadier General. Elliott had a tumultuous personal life marked by multiple marriages and struggles with alcoholism. Despite his familial connections, he often found himself at odds with his parents, particularly his father, due to their differing political views and his own rebellious nature. Elliott Roosevelt authored several books, including a series of detective novels and memoirs recounting his experiences in the military and his relationship with his famous parents. Eight of the novels were published during his lifetime, with the remaining sixteen after his death in 1990, which were completed by his friend, William Harrington.
