December 6, 1902), an American educator and eventually, President of Wellesley College from 1881 to 1887, when she left to marry the Harvard professor George Herbert Palmer, the author here. Her Wikipedia entry notes that, from 1892 to 1895, "she was dean of women at the newly founded University of Chicago." She advocated for women's and girls' education and sponsored the founding of the eventual American Association of University Women. A sumptuous rebinding of red marbled paper over boards, calf leather over tips and spine, five raised bands thereover, five fleurs-de-lis and gilt ruling to spine. Mild rubbing to joints, tips, spine head and foot. Marbled endpapers.
