In-12(133x82); 498pp-3ffnch (tables) , relié plein parchemin , dos lisse avec titre manuscrit , illustré d un frontispice gravé et de 18 planches (17 dépliantes) représentant des figures de la cour , les costumes des ottomans, de la sultane, des militaires et derviches , etc. L édition originale de cette traduction française par Pierre Briot est parue au format in-4 chez Sébastien Marbré Cramoisy en 1670 ,l édition originale anglaise, date quant à elle de 1668 ,réimprimée un grand nombre de fois sous différents formats, était le premier ouvrage à bien faire connaître les m urs des Turcs, ainsi que les ressources et la politique de l Empire ottoman. L ouvrage ne tarda pas à être traduit en français, la première paraissant deux ans plus tard sous la plume de Pierre Briot, Paris, 1670 gr. in-4°, et la seconde à Bespier, Rouen 1677 in 12°, 2 vol. Paul Rycaut (ou Ricaut), né en 1629 à Londres , après des études à Cambridge , il accompagne le comte de Winchelsea, en 1661, dans son ambassade extraordinaire de Charles II auprès du sultan Mehmed IV à Constantinople, puis fut nommé consul à Smyrne , il passa 24 années en dehors de son pays et put s instruire pleinement des us et coutumes des turcs .

Édition de la même année que l'originale in 4, de la traduction française par Pierre Briot, qui fut considérée comme la plus exacte. Cette histoire de l?état présent de l?Empire ottoman publiée pour la 1re fois en anglais en 1668 fut le premier ouvrage à bien faire connaître les m?urs des Turcs, ainsi que les ressources et la politique de cet Empire. Il fut traduit dans presque toutes les langues de l?Europe et continua, malgré les nouvelles informations qui furent recueillies par la suite sur la Porte, d?être lu avec intérêt. Il passe même pour l?une des sources pour les "Lettres persanes" de Montesquieu, qui en possédait un exemplaire dans sa bibliothèque.

Cet Etat de l'Empire ottoman paru en anglais en 1668 constitue le premier ouvrage détaillé sur les moeurs des Turcs, les ressources et la politique Ottomane. Il passe même pour l'une des sources des "Lettres persanes" de Montesquieu, qui en possédait un exemplaire dans sa bibliothèque. Ricaut fut secrétaire de l'Ambassadeur d'Angleterre à Constantinople de 1661 à 1667. Il rédigea en 1663 les articles du traité de paix conclu entre l'Angleterre et le gouvernement Ottoman et obtint le privilège pour les navires anglais d'être exemptés du droit de visite. Blackmer 1464 (autre édit.) "an extremely important and influential work, wich provides the fullest account of Ottoman affairs during the 17th century". In-8°; antiporta figurata incisa su rame e pp. (16), 661, (3), e 19 tavole finemente incise su rame da Le Clerc, che raffigurano con eleganza i costumi degli ottomani, dalle dame al sultano, ai militari ai dervisci al sultano ecc, in ambientazioni contestualizzate. nel testo un rame che raffigura il copricapo detto "turban". Legatura in piena pelle con dorso restaurato. Traduzione in francese dell'importante opera sulla Turchia di Paul Ricault, diplomatico inglese inviato a Costantinopoli. Quest'opera ebbe molte traduzioni dato il suo successo, ed è ancora oggi di rilevante interesse storico per lo studio dell'impero ottomano.

Contemporary calf, flat spine richly gilt, rubbed and hinges weak, spine ends chipped. The second French edition of this important work on the Ottoman Empire mainly based on Rycaut's personal experiences. In-16 de 498-(6) pp., veau brun, dos lisse orné, tranches rouges (reliure de l'époque). Le nom de l'auteur ne figure plus sur cette éditon, seul le nom du traducteur, Paul Briot est imprimé au titre ; la première édition française parut en 1670. Un titre frontispice, une vignette au titre et 18 gravures dépliantes. C'est en 1661 que Paul Rycaut partit en Turquie en tant que secrétaire du comte de Winchelsea ; il prit une part active à la rédaction du traité qui fut conclu en 1663 entre l'Angleterre et le gouvernement ottoman. Ce témoignage fut publié pour la première fois à Londres en 1669 sous le titre : The Present state of the Ottoman empire.Bon exemplaire. Petite galerie de vers marginale, sans atteinte au texte.
