Hardcover. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Poor. First Edition. 300 g; VIII, 9-228 pages, last two pages blank, illustrated dust jacket. This, the author's first novel, developed out of a radio play called Lines of Communication. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1. Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition (first printing). 8vo. 226pp. Paper-covered boards lettered in green at the spine. Half a dozen pinpricks of spotting to the top edge. Very good indeed in non-price-clipped dust wrapper, a little rubbed and chafed at the spine ends and corner tips and with a little dust soiling and an area of miscellaneous staining to the rear panel. The author's first novel, a World War Two story set in Bengal and Burma which was initially rejected by seventeen publisher's before going on to win the Eyre & Spottiswoode Literary Fellowship Prize. Now quite elusive.

Soft cover. Condición: Fine. Proof Copy. Almost certainly a pre-1st edition proof copy. No date of publcation. Thin brown paper covers the name "Mr. Jerrald" written in pencil at top of front cover as if marked for his attention. (possibly a newspaper reviewer or publisher.) These paper covers are a little creased at edges and there is a blue smudge at the top of the front cover but this doesn't detract from this being possibly a very scarce and desireable pre publication copy of this book.

First Edition. 8vo, publisher's original mustard yellow cloth, lettered on the spine and in the original colour dustjacket. 226 pp. A fine copy, the cloth, dustjacket only mildly age-mellowed. SCOTT'S FIRST NOVEL AND A PLEASING COPY BY THE AUTHOR OF THE RAJ QUARTET. WINNER OF THE EYRE & SPOTTISWOODE LITERARY FELLOWSHIP PRIZE. "This brilliant first novel, reflects the author's grasp and mature understanding of the intricate web of conflicting emotions which entangles the lives of ordinary men. He sees clearly the spirit which prompts them to affection and loyalty, hate and selfishness. And under the spell of his sensitive prose the background of Bengal, Manipur and Burma adds to the story of rare, exciting authenticity." - publisher.

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 1st Edition. Johnnie Sahib, Paul Scott, Eyre & Spottiswoode, 1952, First Edition First Impression, Rare Subsequently famous for The Jewel in the Crown and ongoing The Raj Quartet saga, Paul Scott's brilliant first novel tackles the intricate web of conflicting emotions which entangles the lives of ordinary men. Against the background of besieged Bengal, Manipur and Burma he sees clearly the spirit which prompts them to affection and loyalty, hate and selfishness. First printings of the above with dustjackets are exceptionally rare in any condition but almost never seen as good as this copy. This would categorise as a very good book in very good dust jacket, in incredible condition for a book 65 years old. The binding is tight and straight, the boards are clean and bright with one small age mark to each of front and back, the endpapers are clean with feint minor foxing and a small neat inscription to the front, the pages are clean, unmarked, without tears and relatively mildly toned given age, as are the page edges. The unclipped dust jacket, protected in a transparent removable plastic cover, is clean without tears and has retained its colour well. There is very minor shelf wear and some browning to the rear cover. Overall a super copy and very collectable. Will be despatched, wrapped carefully in bubblewrap and a cardboard box.

Hard Cover. First Edition, First printing. FINE IN FINE DJ WITH ORIGINAL 12s6d PRICE. A LITTLE RUBBING ON BACK PANEL, SLIGHTLY BUMPED BOARDS AT SPINE BOTTOM, OTHERWISE IT APPEARS ALMOST AS NEW. AN EXCEPTIONAL COPY OF THE AUTHOR'S FIRST BOOK.
Cloth. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. None Ilustrador. First edition. The first edition of this first novel from Paul Scott. Scott published a collection of three religious poems under the title I, Gerontius in 1941, but his writing career began in earnest with his first novel Johnny Sahib. In a cloth binding with original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, smart, with only some bumping. Dustwrapper is sound, though with some chipping and handling marks, along with several closed tears. Internally, firmly bound. Front endpaper has been removed. Pages are bright and clean, with just the occasional mark. Very Good. book.
