The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. The text pages are clean and bright. The dust jacket is crisp and clean. "On 16 July 1976, during the long weekend of Bastille Day, Spaggiari's gang broke into the vault itself. They opened 400 safe deposit boxes and stole an estimated 30100 million francs worth of money, securities and valuables. It was the largest heist in the history of bank robberies to that date. According to some accounts, Spaggiari brought his men a meal including wine and pâté, and reportedly they sat down in the vault for a picnic lunch, after welding the vault door shut from the inside. The gang spent hours picking through the various safe deposit boxes. Before they left on 20 July they left a message on the walls of the vault: sans armes, ni haine, ni violence ("without weapons, hatred, or violence")." (from Wikipedia).

First edition. First U.S. edition. Originally published in the U.K. as The Heist Of The Century. Fine in dust jacket. In the summer of 1976 a gang of twenty criminals, under the direction of Albert Spaggiari, spent two months digging a 25-foot tunnel from the city sewer system into a bank vault in Nice, France. Once in, the men proceeded to spend the weekend breaking into safe deposit boxes before leaving with some $8 to $10 million in cash, gold, and jewelry and daubing the phrase "sans haine, sans violence et sans arme" on the wall. The book focuses on the heist and the small details that led to Spaggiari's eventual capture. Once captured, Spaggiari escaped from the courtroom in the middle of his interrogation. He remains at-large today!.

Hardcover in dust jacket. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. This book is hard-bound in gray paper covered boards, with a red cloth spine, with black stamping, in a nice dust jacket with light soiling and edge-wear. The covers show light toning to the edges. The binding is solid. The contents are bright and clean. Laid-in at the front is an interesting, 90 word TLs (Typed Letter Signed) by Ken Follett concerning his non-authorship of the book. From the collection of Cuthbert Christian Thambimuttu (1945-2019) of Columbus, Ohio - known to many of his bookseller, author, and illustrator friends as "Tubby." He was persistent in the pursuit of autographed books by the writers and artists he admired, including Gorey, Sendak, Heaney, Byatt, Morrison, Updike and many more. Joseph Heller once wrote to Tubby in response to one more "please sign and return" request: "This is turning out to be a hell of a lot of work!" All signed books unconditionally guaranteed to be authentic. Many of the books are inscribed to both Cuthbert and his great friend of more than two decades Antonia Gale Moss.
