First Edition. Signed and inscribed by the author Tony Thomas to film composer Hans J. Salter who is among those profiled in the book. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: ÒFor Hans, A good friend as well as a favorite composer. Sincerely, Tony Thomas.Ó Illustrated. About fine copy with just a hint of handling in a very good bright dust jacket with some minor dust soiling to the rear panel and a few small tears. The book offers 20 comprehensive profiles of some of the most celebrated and accomplished film composers of its time, including, in addition to Hans J. Salter, Aaron Copland, Miklos Rozsa, Max Steiner, Dimitri Tiomkin, Alfred Newman, Elmer Bernstein, Henry Mancini, and Jerry Goldsmith. Hans J. Salter (1896 - 1994) was an Austrian born American film composer, working mostly with Universal Studios, most notably for their horror and science fiction themed films, including The Wolf Man (1941), Scarlet Street (1945), The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), and The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957). He was nominated for four Best Score Oscars in the course of his career; It Started with Eve in 1943 which he shared with Charles Previn, The Amazing Mrs. Holliday in 1944 shared with Frank Skinner, Christmas Holiday and The Merry Monahans in 1945, and CanÕt Help Singing shared with Jerome Kern and This Love of Ours in 1946.
