Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Poor. Translated from the Hungarian by John Pauker. Noted on title page: "Arranged for the Fiction Book Club by Isabel Ely Lord," however there are no other indications that this is a BCE. Hard cover in very good condition with grayish boards with maroon spine lettering and maroon crown & shield embossed on front cover. Shows light wear; corners bumped. Interior text block clean & tight; no writing, no markings to note. Age toning to the papers; three pages near front have indication that were dog-ear folded at some point. 404 numbered pages. Dust jacket in poor condition; shelf & edge wear, rubbing at folds with some loss of paper, especially at head & tail of spine. Front cover has a dark stain which seems to be a blob of dry ink (as if from a fountain pen which would have been in common use at time of publication.) * From the back jacket flap, "Lojos Zilaby is Hungary's foremost novelist. His books have been translated into every European language, form Norway to Turkey; in Italy and Spain he is the most popular foreign author.he is a veteran of World War I, in which he was wounded. He wrote "The Dukays" during the second war, much of the time in attics and cellars while in hiding from the Nazis." From the jacket flap, "A superb story of the lives and loves of two generations of European aristocracy, THE DUKAYS is, as critics have said, "a novel on the grand scale." ". . . "The whole incredible saga of a rich Hungarian clan is told by a famous novelist in such wealth of authentic detail as to win for THE DUKAYS instant acclaim as a present-day masterpiece.'.
