First Edition. Stated first printing of Hall's highly scarce second novel, the first to be published under his full name (his first, and a handful of subsequent mysteries, were published as "O.M. Hall" and then "Jason Manor"). Published while teaching Fiction at the Iowa Writer's Workshop, Hall would go on to become a respected novelist and professor at UC Irvine, but this early hard-boiled novel, set in the slums and stockyards of the Great Depression, would remain out of print from 1959 to 2018. Very Good, edges and extremities lightly rubbed, with a slightly rolled spine, light abrasion to topstain. Previous owner inscription to front free end paper. Otherwise bright, sound, clean. About Very Good jacket, unclipped, with creasing and shallow chipping about edges, some toning and soiling, small dampstain to heel of spine. Else bright and attractive. Hardcover [octavo] in illustrated dust jacket. Thatched brown cloth with blue and white decorative title to spine, publisher's blue topstain. 302 pp.

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. Inscribed on ffep ''For Nanna / from / Oakley / Iowa City, 1950''. Stated First Printing. A few spots of surface damage (front cover and spine). Tide mark on front cover. Ends of spine lightly worn, publisher's name at foot of spine rubbed. Internally clean. 302 pages. In an archival mylar wrapper. A signed copy of Oakley Hall's scarce second novel. [We made some effort to make an educated guess as to the identity of Nanna. His grandmothers were ruled out, as both were deceased prior to 1950, as was his wife's maternal grandmother. If it was a grandmother, it could have been his wife's paternal grandmother, Mary Ulysses (nee Johnston) Edinger (1865-1953), or alternatively his wife's step-mother's mother whose identity we could not confirm.]. Signed by Author(s).
