Hardcover. Condición: Very good. First American edition. 395pp. Duodecimo [19 cm] Blue cloth covered boards with light green ink stamped titles on the spine and front cover. Decorative endpapers. The spine and covers show light edge wear. The front endsheet has a prior owner's ink stamp and name in pen. The text block is only just starting to crack at the rear. The earlier UK edition is cited in the Bleiler checklist and Reginald. This novel, which was later adapted into a film with the same name, is a disaster-themed story in which a geographical upheaval results in parts of Britain sinking under the sea, and turning the Chilterns into an archipelago of very small islands.

Hardcover - Early printing. Novel set in the near future, where a geologic catastrophe has caused most of the land in Europe and elsewhere to be flooded - however, a small section of the Cotswalds was uplifted and those living there face a fight for survival in a world they are totally unprepared for. A classic, and with today's global warming, one that might be even more relevant now than when it was written. 395 pp. Stylized art deco design on the endpapers. Shows Cosmopolitan on title page, and states first edition, but Grosset and Dunlap on the spine. Very good in dark blue cloth (some mottling to the spine, usual light toning to the pages), no dust jacket.

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. No dust jacket. Sun fading to spine. Book tight and binding tight. Pages ends have some foxing, but a very nice copy of this classic. Pages white and clean. First published in 1927, Deluge is one of the most famous of the English catastrophe novels. Beautifully written and action packed RKO Radio Pictures even filmed this story?the novel depicts a flood so severe that it destroys modern civilization, leaving the few survivors to adapt to the rigors of the natural world. Like other English writers responding to the trauma of World War I, Sydney Fowler Wright expresses a loathing of the worst aspects of industrialization. The flood, in his view, becomes an opportunity for the remaking of society. The protagonists soon realize that civilization and technology have divorced them from the knowledge and skills necessary for survival. Released from their over-reliance on social regulation, they struggle to overcome their own brutality to develop a new sense of community. For over 75 years readers have praised this book for its style and wisdom, and debated the meaning of its controversial ending.
