Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. First Edition. A Harper anomaly, no statement of first edition, but apparently a true First Edition. I consulted several dealers who agree. This is a very nice copy, the jacket shows light stressing to spine area, a little chipping at head of spine, tiny chip at each top flap fold. $2.95 price intact. Pretty rare title.

First edition. First edition. Author's fourth book. Fine in dust jacket with light wear to spine ends, small closed tear to top edge of rear panel, and a couple of small stains to back panel. Melinda Van Allen is beautiful, rebellious, tempestuous, sexy, and the wife of Vic Van Allen. Theirs is a loveless marriage and Melinda, an incorrigible flirt, spares no opportunity to flaunt her many lovers to her husband. When one of Melinda's lovers is murdered, Vic doesn't hesitate to suggest to her latest paramour that he might have been responsible. As rumours about Vic's nasty streak begin to spread, fiction and reality begin to converge. It's only a matter of time before Vic really does have blood on his hands! A brilliant story and the nicest copy we have handled of this title in sometime. The basis for the 1981 French film Eaux Profondes (Deep Water).

Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. First edition. Octavo. 213pp. Near fine with light wear at the corners in about very good toned dust jacket with some splitting at he folds and wear at the edges. Inscribed by Highsmith, partially in German and with a drawling of a monster attacking a city: "To Gert and Betty Glückliche Reise nach Berleen! Sept.10.1957 Pat." The recipient was Gertude Macy, one of Highsmith's neighbors in Palisades (then Snedens Landing), New York and longtime friend, who was a Broadway producer and the manager of actress Katherine Cornell. Basis for the 1981 French film and the 2022 America film starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas. The author's fifth book and scarcest title, especially signed and with a sketch. Purchased by a collector from the estate of Macy in 1985.

First edition of the author's classic fifth novel. Octavo, original half cloth. Signed by the author on the front free endpaper, "Very best wishes, Pat Highsmith." Near fine in a very good dust jacket. Jacket design by Polly Cameron. Rare and desirable signed. Anthony Boucher reviewing the novel in The New York Times, praised Highsmith's "coming of age as a novelist", and noted that Deep Water was "incomparably stronger in subtlety and depth of characterization" than her first novel, Strangers on a Train. Gillian Flynn has called the novel one of her favorites. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Flynn stated: "About ten or fifteen years ago, I came across it in a used-book store. I remember thinking, "Why has no one told me about it?" People know her for Ripley or Strangers on a Train but don't know a lot of her other stuff. And, it being a marital thriller where all the phobias and fears and darkness are based mostly inside a couple's home, that has always interested me, that in-your-face warfare between a husband and wife." It is the basis for the 1981 film by director Michel Deville into the film Eaux profondes, relocating the setting to France. Jean-Louis Trintignant starred as Vic, with Isabelle Huppert as Melinda, renamed Melanie and the 2022 film directed by Adrian Lyne starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas.
