Paperback. Condición: Very Good. David Bowie was born into a lower middle class London family which, in its particular brand of weirdness, bears comparison with Jo Orton's. David was his mother, Peggy's, third illegitimate child and although David's father was Jewish, Peggy was a member of Oswald Mosley's Blackshirts. David idolized his elder brother, Terry, who was institutionalized because of schizophrenia, and it was a fear of going mad himself which was to be the driving inspirational force behind David's creation of himself as a pop superstar. Experimenting with drugs, oriental philosophy and bisexuality, he tried to dramatize the idea of going to the far side of madness, and created Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane and the Thin White Duke, the pop archetypes which were to dominate the 1970s. In 1973 he had five albums in the top 30 at the same time. In this book David talks frankly about his open marriage with Angie, and his relationship with friends and rivals such as Marc Bolan, Lou Reed, Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. Very good condition color photographic softcover wraps. Includes Introduction; Notes; Bibliography; and Appendix: Timeframe. Illustrated with black-and-white photographs. First Carroll & Graf Edition. "The story of one of rock music's most enduring stars - the creation of a reputation and a fortune." "How has pop icon David Bowie kept creating new music and fascinating his fans? What does he believe and where did he come from? Are the mercurial changes in his public image an accurate reflection of the inner man, or is he cleverly concealing his real self? Veteran rock journalist George Tremlett knew David Bowie well in his early days and grew close to many of his contemporaries (including Mott The Hoople, Brian Eno, and Peter Frampton). Tremlett delves beneath the images of Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, The Man Who Fell to Earth, and The Thin White Duke for the intriguing story of media manipulation and financial management, shrewd deals and groundbreaking music." "An excellent biography, not only because it sheds interesting light on the star's strange career, but also because of its uncommonly frank discussion of high finance in the music industry." - The Daily Telegraph.
