Hardcover. Condición: Very Good Plus / Very Good. Stated First U.S. Edition. Octavo, 8.5 in. x 5.7 in., pp. 471. Blue cloth-covered boards with gilt title to spine. Very light rubbing to extremities. Unmarked interior. Light sunning, and light rubbing to edges of dustjacket. Protected in mylar. "Consider Phlebas is a space opera novel by Scottish writer Iain M. Banks. It is the first in a series of novels about an interstellar post-scarcity society called the Culture. The novel revolves around the Idiran-Culture War, and Banks plays on that theme by presenting various microcosms of that conflict. Its protagonist Bora Horza Gobuchul is an enemy of the Culture." (from Wikipedia) "Escape seemed impossible: 'there was one bewilderingly complicated and unlikely way out of the concentric shells of erupting energies now opening like the petals of some immense flower between the star systems. It was not, however, a route the Mind of a small, archaic warship could plan for, create and follow. By the time it was noticed that the ships Mind had taken exactly that path through its screen of annihilation, it was too late to stop it from falling away through hyperspace towards the small, cold planet fourth out from the single yellow sun of the nearby systems.the planet the Mind had made for through its shield of explosions was not one they could simply attack, destroy or even land on; it was Schar's World, near the region of barren space between two galactic strands called the Sullen Gulf, and it was one of the forbidden planets of the Dead".

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition first printing. Hardback book is tight and square. Boards sharp, with some feint grubby marks to the upper board. The lower board has some feint grubby and splash marks. Spine clean with bumped ends, black title unmarked and bold. Text block has a obviously accidental biro mark to the top edge, otherwise clean with light toning to edges, more pronounced to the top edge. Previous owners name and date in neat biro to the FEP, which also has a previous booksellers pencil price. Otherwise the pages are unblemished. Feels well bound and gently read. Very good condition. Jacket has small losses to the top fore-edge corners, and run to the head of the front joint. There is general light creasing to the panels and minor crimping to the edges. There is a touch of sunning to the spine, as evidenced by a little fading of the yellow titles. Overall a very good copy. For grading accuracy books are photographed without a protective book cover. This book is fitted with a non adhesive archival quality book protector to make a worthy addition to your collection. Note we do not use stock images, the book pictured is the book described. Whilst this volume is not the most perfect copy we have handled of this title, it is a well bound and solid example of Iain M Banks's debut novel. In the fitted archival cover is looks very presentable on the shelf and will make a great addition to a modern SF collection. Hardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. 1st Edition. Iain M. Banks (1987) Consider Phlebas , UK first edition, first printing, published by Macmillan. Signed and inscribed by the author on the title page: To Richard from Iain M Banks 15/3/89 . In recent years a number of forged Banks signatures have emerged. Most of those are flat signed . Inscribed copies are prefered by the collector due to the additional security and comparability of the handwriting. Condition: a lovely, fine copy and probably unread. No previous owners inscriptions, no bookplates, no stamps. Book is aquare and yellow boards are clean. Natural toning of the paper commensurate with age is very minimal. The dust jacket is NOT price clipped showing the correct £10.95 net price. No fading to the spine as often seen. A superb copy. The first Iain M. Banks sci-fi novel and the first in the seminal Culture universe. It is noteworthy that Elon Musk of Space-X and Jeff Bezos of Blue Origin are fans of Iain Banks sci-fi stories. Musk even named a number of the landing platforms for the Falcon boosters after Banks spaceships ( Just Read the Insctructions ; Of Course I Still Love You ). A recent Amazon attempt of a TV adaptation was cancelled in 2020, probably due to the pandemic. However, it is only a question of time before a TV-adaptation will be done since the Culture novels have broad appeal. First and Fine. Signed by Author(s).

First edition, first impression, of the author's sci-fi debut, inscribed by him on the title page, "To James - a demanding dingbat, from Iain Banks, 11/04/1987". This copy was presumably inscribed by Banks at Forbidden Planet's signing event for Consider Phlebas, held at The Science Fiction and Comic Book Shop in London. This title, the first in the Culture series, is uncommon inscribed. Octavo. Original yellow cloth, spine lettered in black. With dust jacket. Spine ends bumped, contents lightly toned, top edge foxed; jacket lightly creased, tiny chip at foot of spine, a couple of corners nicked, unclipped: a near-fine copy in like jacket.
