Original Illustrated Cloth HB. Condición: Very Good Plus. M.L. Kirk [Maria Louise] Ilustrador. First UK Edition. No stated date c1908. Presumed first UK edition (the first American edition was published by Frederick A. Stokes in 1908 and this UK issue was printed in the USA). [vii], 39pp. and 12 colour plates including the frontispiece. This is a beautifully illustrated adapatation for younger readers of Washington Irving's story of Rip Van Winkle. It is illustrared by the American artist and illustrator Maria Louise Kirk (1860-1930). Despite being a prolific and highly talented illustrator, very little is known about her life. She studied art in Philadelphia at the School of Design for Women, and the Academy of Fine Arts. The book is bound in the original green cloth covered boards with yellow titling and a colour illustration on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling on the boards. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few light marks from finger smudges. A name has been written in pencil on both sides of the front free endpaper.
