La collana Testi critici e annotati, diretta da Paolo Trovato, propone la Cassaria in versi, la quale opera è il rifacimento dell omonima commedia in prosa rappresentata nel carnevale del 1508 e ripresa in mano da Ariosto a cavallo tra il 1528 e 1529. La trama della commedia, ambientata a Sibari nell arco di una giornata, si sviluppa attraverso cinque atti preceduti da un prologo, rispettando le unità aristoteliche di luogo e tempo. Pur mantenendo quelle carattersitiche classiche della commedia antica, appartenute ad autori come Plauto e Terenzio, la storia contiene molte situazioni particolari e una carica di ironia tipica della personalità di Ariosto. Imprese dello stampatore in principio e in fine delle varie commedie. Prima edizione collettiva delle commedie ariostee; nel 1551 uscirono infatti, in libretti separati presso Giolito, solo 3 delle 5 commedie, mentre la Cassaria fu stampata per la prima volta nel 1560 e la Scolastica nel 1553.
