Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. 1st Edition. A near fine copy, in a good dust jacket, of the first edition. The binding of black cloth is clean and unworn, with strong gilt lettering to the spine. Everything is square and tight, with sharp unbumped edges and corners. Inside the pages are clean and bright and there are no ownership inscriptions or other markings of any kind. The dust jacket is neatly clipped, and shows edgewear with closed tears up to two inches and two losses to the rear face, the larger being a two-inch triangle. It is now protected in a removable mylar cover. From the jacket flap: "For almost two years [the author]. sought out dozens of witnesses who might shed light on the Gibraltar tragedy of 1943 and on Hochhuth's allegation that Sir Winston Churchill either ordered or acquiesced in the political murder of his personal friend and war-time ally, General Wladislaw Sikorski, Minister President of Poland".

Hardcover in Dust Jacket. Condición: Very Good. First English Edition (Za345) (R266). Demolishes the myth, foisted by Rolf Hochhuth's play, "The Soldiers," that Churchill was implicated in the "murder" of Polish General Sikorski, whose death was certainly an accident. Thompson, a friend of Hochhuth's, became alienated by the latter's sensationalist charges and wrote this book to refute them. This is a very good copy of the First English edition, in an unclipped, later printing dust jacket (with reviews on the rear face) that has darkened a bit with age.

Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. No Jacket. Photos Ilustrador. Original black cloth on boards. The only writing in this book is that of the author, Carlos Thompson, whose written remarks, including a genial inscription, cover more than half of the dedication page. It appears that Thompson has sent this book, as well as a German edition, to a local woman. He has also laid in a photocopy, which is inscribed to the same woman, and signed, "C Th." The latter is a review by Robert Blake which appeared 11 May, 1969, in the Sunday Times. Basis of the book is the desire by the author to clear the reputation of Winston Churchill after it was suggested by others that Churchill was involved in the death of the Polish general, Sikorski, in July of 1943. Prominent in the story are the author, German playwright Rolf Hochhuth, Lawrence Olivier, and author David Irving, to whose previous book (Accident, the Death of General Sikorski) Thompson's book is a rebuttal. I waded through this volume once, started it again, and gave up. I am left with the impression that Thompson did a truly remarkable job of quashing the allegations of murder. Carlos Thompson, born in Argentina as Juan Carlos Mundin Schaffter in 1923 became a film star in Germany and Hollywood, where he played opposite some of the best-known actresses of the 50's. He committed suicide in 1990, four years after the death of his wife of many years, actress Lilli Palmer. 461 pp., including seven appendices. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.

First edition, signed limited issue of the author's in-depth investigation into the allegations put forth in Rolf Hochhuth's 'Soldiers, An obituary for Geneva' (1967). Octavo, bound in three quarters morocco by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, gilt titles and ruling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers. One of a limited number of copies signed by the author on the dedication page. In fine condition. Thompson conducted the thorough investigation contained in The Assassination of Winston Churchill in response to the allegations claimed in Rolf Hochhuth in his 1967 play 'Soldiers, An obituary for Geneva,' in which he suggested that Winston Churchill was responsible for the death of the Prime Minister of the Polish Government in Exile, General WÅ adysÅ aw Sikorski, in an airplane crash in 1943, contradicting the official version of events as an accident, and implying that General Sikorski had been murdered on Churchill's orders.
