Synopsis and review have been cut from jacket and pasted to second blank page. This is the complete book of the Theatre Guild's superb Broadway production, which again has proved that Oscar Hammerstein II is the most gifted writer in a new form.

Rodger and Hammerstein's third collaboration for the stage, Allegro opened on Broadway on October 10, 1947 and was followed by a short national tour. Ward Morehouse of the New York Sun declared it, "a distinguished and tumultuous musical play. excitingly unconventional in form. it takes its place alongside 'Oklahoma!' and 'Carousel' as a theatrical piece of taste, imagination, and showmanship.'.
