Hardcover. Condición: Very Good +. Book Ilustrador. Lavishly-illustrated edition of Victor Hugo's classic novel, "illustrated from drawings by Boulanger, Daubigny, Meissonnier" and many others, this was the first in a long series of elaborate pairings of text and art. Large 8vo, 485 pp. plus a final leaf containing a "Table of Chapters" and, on the reverse, a "Notice to the Binder" with instructions for placement of each of the 55 inserted plates. Second printing, with a bat shown below the engraved image of Notre Dame, together with other "points". The spectacular unsigned binding, in full dark green leather, spine with 5 raised bands, is figured in gilt and blind on spine, front, and back covers, all edges gilt; endpapers are doublures of creamy watered silk. There are small signs of rubbing on the front and rear hinges, and the front bottom tip is a little bruised; otherwise a very clean and tight nineteenth-century binding Excellent paper throughout, very little foxing except on the half-title. A desirable copy of this classic illustrated edition.
